RESIDENTIAL EXTENSION & REMODELLING – CONCEPT DESIGN + FULL PLANNING SUBMISSION

This project involved the complete reimagining of an existing family home in Telford, where the clients sought to maximise internal space, improve flow between rooms, and enhance the overall usability of the property. I was appointed to develop early-stage concept proposals and progress the preferred design through to full planning submission with detailed architectural drawings.

Working closely with the homeowners, I developed a series of layout options that explored how best to unlock the potential of the property. The preferred scheme includes a thoughtfully designed ground floor extension to create an enlarged open-plan kitchen, dining, and family space. The redesign also introduces a dedicated home office, upgraded utility room, WC repositioning, and a flexible playroom – all clearly illustrated in the proposed ground floor plan.
On the first floor, new internal arrangements were proposed to improve privacy, circulation, and storage. The master bedroom now benefits from an integrated walk-in dressing room and a redesigned en-suite, while additional bedrooms and the main family bathroom were optimised for both functionality and future flexibility.
Externally, the new elevations respond sensitively to the existing architecture, with matching brickwork, roof tiles, and contemporary white UPVC windows and doors. These elements help the extension blend seamlessly with the original structure while elevating the home’s overall appearance. Detailed elevation drawings were produced to support the planning application and demonstrate compliance with local design guidance.

Throughout the project, I provided: Concept design development and option studies, Full measured survey and existing building documentation, Proposed floor plans, elevations, and sections, Integration of structural allowances within the architectural layout, Planning-ready drawing packages and compliance statements, and 3D visualisations to communicate the design intent

This project highlights my ability to transform dated layouts into modern, coherent living spaces while ensuring the proposals meet local authority planning requirements and align with the client’s long-term needs.
